Boulder Boat Works Rocky Mountain Rowing Dory
The "Gloucester Light" was the inspiration for our newest boat. The proven performance and elegant lines of this coastal boat have stood the test of time. First introduced in the late 1940's, it was built as a quick, responsive one or two person craft. This sleek boat rows easily through significant winds and slices waves like a razor which makes it a very stable craft. There are a great many waters in the west that would be a fit for a canoe if winds were not a factor. Slow, meandering rivers, high desert lakes, reservoirs, and ranch ponds all hold game fish and are inviting from a small boat. The leverage provided through the oars far outweighs that of a canoe paddle and is a key advantage when on moving water allowing the boat to be back rowed when necessary. The leverage also affects speed, easily outpacing canoes and sea kayaks on the water. Transportation can be handled by car topping on a roof rack or by trailer adding to the boat's versatility.
Like our river dories, the hull of this boat is made from high density polyethylene and is fitted with furniture grade white oak gunnels, bow stem, seats, ribs and transom plates. Sawyer's spoon blade fir oars and Cobra oarlocks are all standard equipment and are included when ordering this dory.
