Drainage/Rivers: Big Horn River, Montana; Tongue River, Montana & Wyoming; Little Big Horn River, Wyoming; Small streams near Sheridan
Species: Brown, Rainbow, Cutthroat, and Brook Trout. Smallmouth Bass, Black Crappie, White Crappie, and Northern Pike.
Biography: I was born in Michigan and received my B.A. in biology from Albion College. I received my master's degree the University of Wyoming in wildlife biology. I first guided in 1969, then in 1971 (to pay off hospital expenses for the birth of twin sons, James and Clint). I worked for five years in Jackson Hole and moved to Sheridan in 1979 to work for the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. I resigned in 1985 and went back to being a guide on Montana's Big Horn River. I worked for Mike Craig, The Bighorn Angler, from 1985 through 1994. I have been an independent outfitter on the Big Horn since 1996. I have written a weekly outdoor column for the Billings Gazette since April 1981. I have written numerous magazine articles for the Fly Fisherman, Fly Rod & Reel, American Angler, Fly Tyer, Fly Fishing and Tying Journal, and Fly Fisher. I have also written four books on edible wild berries.

I own a Boulder Boat Works dory due to a number of factors: It is lightweight, easy to launch, easy to row, handles well in the wind, has common sense middle of the boat drain plugs, glides over obstacles, it's indestructible, looks great, and has low maintenance. My BBW dory might enable me to guide until I die! Maybe that is an exaggeration, but the boat launches so easily, rows so well, and makes rowing in the wind a minor chore not a major one that I can easily envision guiding until I am 75 (I am 62).

Drainage/Rivers: Smith, Blackfoot, Rock Creek, Bitterroot, Clarkfork, Missouri
Species: Trout
Biography: I started guiding the rivers of Western and central Montana in 1993. In 2000 I started outfitting on Montanas Smith River which is famous for its sixty mile stretch of spectacular limestone canyon walls, beautiful brown trout and limited access. These Multi-day fishing camping trips are our specialty. I can be found on our 5 day Smith River trips from May through mid July, and then I split the rest of the season on more than 400 miles of river that we operate on in Western Montana. In the fall and winter I chase whistling wings around the state of Montana with my yellow Labs, Cody and Callie.

Where have you been my whole life? That is the feeling you get when you first jump into a Boulder Boat. They are so light and so agile and so
.classy! There is no other boat out there that allows you to row in such varied conditions as the Boulder Boat. From the shallow boulder strewn Smith River to head hunting down a sneaky side channel of the Missouri to holding your angle on a windy day on the Clarkfork, no boat can do it better.

Drainage/Rivers: Kootenai River
Species: Rainbow and West Slope Cutthroat
Biography: A good friend of mine called me a "born again Montanan." I moved to Bozeman in 1985 to accept a graduate assistantship at Montana State university. I was flown out for the interview, and when the plane banked over the Bridger Range, I knew I'd accept any offer they made me! I spent the first ten years east of the divide then moved to Troy in 1995. I've been guiding professionally for ten years on the Kootenai and its tributaries, but take full advantage of my location to fish the world class waters of Montana, British Columbia, and Alberta.

|
I wanted a boat as beautiful as a perfect cast, and the Boulder Boat Works Pro Guide model is as lovely as it is technically advanced. The HDPE hull is as nimble and quick as your finest dry fly rod, and the wood trim is as beautiful as a fly perfectly presented.

Drainage/Rivers: Clark Fork, Bitterroot, Blackfoot and Missouri Rivers
Species: Trout, Pike, Carp
Biography: Born in Southwest Pennsylvania, I grew up fishing the mountain streams for native brook trout as well as the larger rivers in the North East. My passion for fly fishing grew into an obsession and it soon became a dream to find a career in the industry. In 1997, I moved to Montana and began guiding for the Grizzly Hackle Fly shop. After four years of guiding and a change in ownership, I took over the role as outfitter and continue to live out my dream on these premiere trout streams. My love for the sport has taken me all over the world in pursuit of both fresh and saltwater game fish. I constantly thrive to become a better guide and fisherman so I can share my knowledge with others.

As a guide spending 200+ days a year in a drift boat, I demand the highest performance from my boat. I have guided out of all the major manufacturers boats but it wasn't until I rowed a BBW boat that I was satisfied. It was clear that these boats were designed by people who fish! There is nothing on the market that come close. Not to mention the handling of the boat... this boat handles shallow water like no other. Don't be fooled by its beauty, this boat is a true workhorse!

Drainage/Rivers: I guide on the San Miguel, Delores, Uncompaghre, and Gunnison Rivers, but I fish all the major rivers and lakes of the Southwest.
Species: Trout, Bass, Pike, Wipers, Carp, Tiger Muskie, and most of the major fish of the oceans as well.
Biography: I grew up working for a fly shop in Atlanta, The Fish Hawk, and moved to Colorado in the late eighties to pursue guiding after graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism. I have been guiding in Telluride and the Telluride region ever since.
|
|
The quietest, lightest and most agile boat that I have ever seen or rowed. Add to that the incredible beauty and strength of the construction, not to mention the great pride of workmanship, and it was an easy choice for me. A BBW boat is also so cool looking that chicks really dig it. So I've got that going for me... which is nice.

Drainage/Rivers: Roaring Fork, Colorado, and Gunnison Rivers
Species: Rainbow and Brown Trout
Biography: I started my guiding career in the Gunnison Drainage in the early 90's and I am now a full-time float guide in the Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado. I've written over 15 fly fishing guide books and river maps for various drainages throughout Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. I also wrote "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fly Fishing."
|
|
Boulder Boat Works finally came out with a well designed, indestructable boat that is quiet on the water, maintenance-free, and perfect for the shallow, technical rivers that I like to run. The boat handles great and the polymer hull literally slides over all but the biggest boulders in the river. If you don't own one, it's because you haven't rowed one!

Drainage/Rivers: Namekagon, Chippewa, and Flambeau
Species: Smallmouth Bass, and Tiger Muskie
Biography: Larry and Wendy are married to each other and their shop, The Hayward Fly Fishing Company, is in Hayward, Wisconsin. They met in 1995 while guiding at Seven Lakes Lodge in Meeker, Colorado for trout on the White River. They moved back to Wendy's hometown in 1998 when here father passed away and they have been guiding for the abundant warmwater species in northwestern Wisconsin ever since... and have never looked back!
|
|
The Boulder Boat Works Pro Guide low profile model is the newest addition to our fleet of driftboats and has quickly, and clearly, become our favorite! Because of the commonly stained waters that we float, the polymer material is superior when it comes to dealing with unseen rocks and low water conditions. The BBW boat is both lighter and more maneuverable... period!!!

www.whitefishstudio.com
Drainage/Rivers: The upper Mississippi, Rum, St. Croix, Namekagon, Flambeau, and Chippewa Rivers
Species: Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Musky, primarily, but also Silver Bass and Carp, etc.
Biography: I grew up in an era when every little boy worth his salt had a coonskin cap, a BB gun, a fishin' pole, and wanted to be Daniel Boone. I guess a big part of me never grew up! Everything worthwhile seemed to lay just over the horizon, to the west and north... and when I finally hit the end of the road, I was in Alaska. After guiding there for a summer, and having so much fun, I decided to see what was at the other end of the road, and ended up in Argentina. I worked full-on in Alaska for eighteen summers, and in Argentina, for nine winters. In 1988, I was awarded Fly Rod & Reel Guide of the year... no big deal... but it sounds nice, and I like to show the kids my award. Since then My wife Lisa and I host fly fishing trips all over the place... introducing old friends to new ones. I'm also an artist, and have been illustrating John Gierach's column in Fly Rod & Reel since March of 1992. This July will mark or 100th column together. I've also recently illustrated Tom Rosenbauer's re-issue of the Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide with over 350 watercolors, oils and line drawing. To keep away from my editors and stay sane. I currently guide old friends and clients on the waters between Lake Superior and Minneapolis.

|
One of the first things an old Alaskan guide, named Rusty, taught me was to keep, "... my knife sharp, my matches dry, and work with the best equipment possible... never scrimp on the quality of your friends or equipment... especially your boat!" Rusty never steered me wrong... I proudly row a Boulder Boat Works drift boat!

Drainage/Rivers: Trinity River, Sacramento River, Lewiston Lake
Species: Steelhead, Salmon, Trout
Biography: I moved to Redding California from Aberdeen Washington In 1963 when I was 12 years old. Over the next 40 + years I spent most of my free time exploring all of the incredible resources Northern California has to offer. I started guiding Professionally in 1990, and never looked back. Now I spend most of my time sharing fly-fishing experiences with others, mostly on the Trinity River where I live full time and call home.

I Had never heard of Boulder Boat Works until one of my clients called me to ask if I would give him my opinion of his new drift boat, as he thought it would be a great boat for the Trinity River. I rowed the boat all the next day and I was blown away by the ease of handling, and how incredibly light and stealthy it was. I had no intention of buying a new drift boat... The next day I called B.B.W. and ordered my own. I have had my new boat for 3 months now, and life is good !!!

Drainage/Rivers: North Platte River
Species: Wild Trout
Biography: I have spent my life chasing river fish and some in the salt. Started guiding at 18 and have been doing it ever sense. Guided in the Appalachian mountains of VA, NC, TN and now guide the remote freestone rivers of south east WY.
|
|
The upper North Platte river is a freestone river that presents many challenges for the oarsman. After runoff subsides it becomes necessary to slide the boat over rocks while still at the oars. My Boulder Boat works is light, flexible, durable and quiet. Unlike fiber glass my dory does not make loud cracking noises, that scare fish and fisherman. I have taken my BBW through lower water than any other boat I have ever rowed.

Drainage/Rivers: Henry's Fork, South Fork of the Snake, and Madison
Species: Trout
Biography: I grew up fishing technical tailwaters and small streams in Colorado and started guiding at 18. After graduating from the University of Colorado, I moved north to guide and float the big waters surrounding Yellowstone Park. I've since settled in Island Park, ID on the banks of the Henry's Fork. When not fishing, I enjoy upland bird hunting with my yellow lab.
|
|
I spend about 150 days a year on the water, so I need a boat that it both durable and comfortable to row. BBW boats are unbelieavably light weight and responsive on the water, and because of the polymer hull I don't have to worry about low water conditions or rocks beating up my boat.
My BBW does it all!

Drainage/Rivers: Clark Fork, Bitteroot, Blackfoot, Rock Creek, Smith, Missouri and anything else I can legally get a boat down.
Species: Primarily trout but there is a soft spot in my heart for big pike, smallies, and only lately, carp. I'm not totally proud of this but a fish is a fish.
Biography: I first casted a fly rod at age five hunting the elusive bluegill. I have fished from New Mexico to Alaska and from south Florida to Quebec. I still rank northern Alberta and southern NWT among my favorites. I came to Missoula in mid 1994 and began guidng in 96. I have recently decided to venture out on my own and look forward to doing it in a new boat.

I swore I would never own a drift boat having rowed an inflatable from day one. This Boulder Boat Works drift boat does everything a raft will do. I especially like its light weight, bouyancy, and obviously its durability. Sowerby sold me more than anything.

Brush Creek Flies
www.brushcreekflies.com
Drainage/Rivers: My guiding takes place primarily on the Gunnison River, East River, Taylor River, Black Canyon, Arkansas River, and high county streams and lakes in the backcountry.
Species: Trout, Salmon, Pike, Warmwater, and Saltwater species in all shapes and sizes.
Biography: I grew up in Southern Illinois and was obsessed with fishing ever since I can remember. My Father introduced my friends and I to flyfishing throughout Missouri and Arkansas in the early 80's. My uncle bought me a fly tying vise in the 6th grade and the rest is history. After graduating from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado I started my guiding career. In the last 13 years of guiding I have rowed over 15,000 commercial river miles. To make a long story short, I spend a lot of time on the river. I also own and operate Brush Creek Flies, which is a wholesale fly company. My wife Jenny, daughter Vivian, son Jake, and Ike dog thankfully put up with my lifestyle.
|
|
The Gunnison has a dramatic fluctuation in flows, from under 300 cfs to over 6000 cfs. So being able to run a dory at 300 cfs has never been feasible before BBW. I can actually run the dory in lower flow than my cataraft. I like to say it "slithers" down the river in low flows and powers thru big waves and holes during high water. My clients are most impressed by the comfort and beauty, and I am impressed by the functionality. The rod storage has made me a better guide, by having quick access to different rigs. The boat is light, quiet, and moves quickly from point A to point B. It is the finest piece of equipment I have ever owned!!

The Greenbrier Sporting Club
www.thegreenbriersportingclub.com
Drainage/Rivers: We float fish the Greenbrier River, Upper James River, New River, and the Jackson River as well as the many smaller trout streams throughout the area.
Species: Trout (Rainbow, Brown, & Brook), Smallmouth Bass, Musky
Biography: It all started with a cheap rod in my parents basement, which led to a severely misspent youth. Soon I was cutting class in high school to fish the steelhead and brown trout runs out of Lake Ontario. Then I dropped out of college in NY to chase steelhead. After my dismal attempt at college in NY, I moved to West Virginia to try college again. This time the fish and bugs that drew me to fly-fishing actually helped in school and I graduated with a degree in environmental science and a job as a field biologist doing aquatic habitat assessment. Then I was offered my dream job as Director of Outdoor Pursuits at The Greenbrier Sporting Club. Now I guide clients and members from around the country on some of the finest smallmouth bass rivers in the east. I have been with the club the past seven years guiding full time while telling everyone I went to school with I retired early.

I row a Boulder Boat Works Dory because it is simply the boat most qualified for where I fish (it helps that she is one hell of a pretty boat). Our BBW dory is super tough and can handle the low water and rocky conditions we often have here. This boat has survived river accesses designed for canoes; we have one that requires a long rope, a pulley and a winch to get off the river, super low water and first year guides. The past few summers were some of the driest of record. With this boats toughness, I was able to fish in water conditions that the other guides could not. The guys at Boulder Boat Works have really created an outstanding product that I love to fish and guide from.

Drainage/Rivers: Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam to the Colorado Border. Patagonia, Chile.
Species: Brown, Rainbow, Cuttbow, and Cutthroat Trout.
Biography: I have been fishing the Green for over 25 years now and continue enjoy the many things it has to offer. Having the chance to work in a place that has so much beauty is truly a great thing. I love the vivid color of the canyons, the river, and the fish. I think we have the most colorful trout in the world. I love to teach, and guiding gives me the chance to to that in an outdoor environment. When I am not guiding I teach Skiing at Sundance ski resort. I have also had the chance to guide on Utah's Provo River and Patagonia in Chile and Argentina. When I'm not skiing or on the water I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife and energetic daughter.
|
|
I row the Green about 180 days a year. Between the constant wind, constantly rowing upstream, and the need to avoid rocks there is a lot of rowing required. I needed a boat that would handle well, be durable, and be light enough to take some wear off the daily grind. I found all of these in the BBW boat. I rowed a BBW one time and knew this was the boat for me. I called and ordered one that evening. I said to myself, "this will add years to my guide career." No regrets, my boat has given me exactly what I was looking for.

Rafts have always been the preferred craft for floating our shallow and rocky rivers.Until I saw a Boulder Boat I never even considered owning a driftboat for these waters. Now that I own a Boulder Boat I couldn't imagine myself in any other river dory. This thing is not only extremely comfortable, but can take the abuse. It eats rocks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is without a doubt the boat I have been searching for.

I own the Boulder Boat Works Low Pro drifter because it is hands down the easiest boat to row on the river. Not to mention it is also the most durable boat on the river. Since purchasing the boat in June of 2008 I have thrown just about every situation imaginable at my boat and it has more than exceeded my expectations. When BBW tells you this boat is a lifer they mean it!

Species: Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, Steelhead, Salmon, and Smallmouth.
Biography: I have been fly fishing since the age of 15 and have guided fly anglers in Michigan and Colorado for the last 9 years. My first love is chasing large resident trout with streamers & dry flies. The Upper & Lower Manistee and the Pere Marquette are among my favorite rivers. I have had the opportunity to fly fish around the world including Argentina, Alaska, Maine, Belize, and New Zealand. I am totally focused on helping my clients land that trophy chrome steelhead, large wary brown trout or dominate male salmon of their dreams.
|
|
I spend about 250 days a year on the water, 90% of the time in boats. BBW boats are unbelievably light weight and responsive on the water. Guiding on northern Michigan Rivers that have boat launches that were designed more for canoes and kayaks, having a light weight boat to lift off the trailer is a bonus. And because of the polymer hull I don't have to worry about low water conditions or rocks beating up my boat and with hardly any sound coming from my BBW as we float down Michigans spring creeks, my wary brown trout do not know that we are coming..

Love the way the boat moves thru the water and handles at all water levels even with a couple of good sized anglers. It is so slick and smooth! When the water gets low there is nothing as quiet as this boat when passing over a low water gravel bed! The aesthetics of the wood trim arent bad either!

Biography: I grew up in Iowa where there is a serious lack of trout so I moved to Missoula to fish and finish college, in that order. The waters of western Montana are very tough on a drift boat. Many of our accesses are primitive and rough, and the low water years of the past decade have meant lots of exposed rocks and logs that love to eat boats. For years I rowed fiberglass boats that would only last one season in our area. After a full season on my Boulder Boat I'm amazed at how great it looks.

Biography: I am an energetic pursuer of scaly, finned creatures of aquatic occupancy with feathery fakes delivered on the long rod. I am self consigned to this fate until release to the happy hunting grounds, where every type of hyporecic craft is a Boulder Boat.
I am a small boat fanatic, and in my profession, I use a drift boat every day I'm on the job. After my first float in a dory, I just knew I had to have one of my own. So every spare moment was spent at the vise, creating flies to sell, so that someday I could have a boat of my own. The day I turned fifteen found me with that goal accomplished, having bought a wooden Don Hill kit boat that was constructed by Green river's own Dennis Breer, and wriiten about in a little book titled Sex Death and Flyfishing.
Back then, if it was a drift boat, and it would float, it would do. But now, since my livelyhood is made from a driftboat, it only makes sense for me to seek out the best. That search for the lightest, most durable material, coupled with the handiest layout, has brought me here, and I am a much happier man because of it. The new generation material, with it's own long list of heightened benefits, married with the beauty and functionality of traditional wooden dories, puts Boulder Boatworks in a class above all the rest. Thanks everyone at Boulder Boats!

I have owned, or watched my guides on the water with all the brands of boats made today. The only boat that outperforms them day in and day out is my Boulder Boat Works dory. What can you say about a hull that makes you hit rocks just to show off to friends? See that big one in the middle, yeah, the one with all the whitewater coming off the side! The ease of cleaning, design work and detail make this boat shine against the other manufacturers. BUY IT! IT'S BEEN MODOBI TESTED!
